Mental Health Therapist

Mental Health Therapist Location: Wetaskiwin, AB Permanent (0.6 FTE)

 

The Wetaskiwin Primary Care Network (WPCN) is a physician-led non-profit corporation that works collaboratively with Primary Care Aberta and our community partners to support primary care in Wetaskiwin and surrounding area.

We are seeking an engaged and enthusiastic Mental Health Therapist to join our multi-disciplinary healthcare team. The incumbent will enhance primary care through the provision of mental health counseling interventions, informal assessments, care coordination, and referrals to community services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Clinical Care – Conduct patient screening, triage assessments, treatment planning, and therapeutic interventions for patients with mild to moderate emotional or psychological issues.

· Provide brief short-term solution focused therapy in accordance with WPCN service standards.

· Conduct post-treatment assessments and refer patients for ongoing mental health or psychosocial services when required.

· Education and support for patients and families, assisting in the delivery of disease management programs, health promotion initiatives, and direct clinical care according to practice policies, protocols, and scope.

· Evaluate treatment plans in consultation with the patient, physician, and other members of the care team.

· Care Coordination and Community Collaboration with Recovery Alberta, WPCN interdisciplinary team and other health service providers.

· Documentation and Reporting.

· Program Development and Administrative: assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures.

· Community Engagement.

· Maintain professional competence through continued professional development.

Requirements:

 

Completion of one of the following:

· Master’s degree in psychology or social work.

· Bachelor’s degree in social work incorporating education in mental health assessment and brief counseling and crisis intervention.

· Master’s or bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy incorporating education in mental health assessment and brief counseling and crisis intervention.

· Bachelor’s degree in nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention.

· Bachelor’s degree in Psychiatric Nursing.

 

· Active registration or eligibility for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory body.

· Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Prevention training or equivalent crisis management education/experience.

· Current Basis Life Support (BLS) certification.

· Knowledge of community-based resources and referral pathways.

· Knowledge of clinical practice standards and relevant legislation.

· Experience in: Grief & loss, Trauma, Depression, Anxiety, Anger Management, Relationships, Chronic Pain.

· Experience working with First Nations or Indigenous populations is considered an asset.

· Experience working with patients across the lifespan (children, youth, adults, and seniors) is considered an asset.

· Ability to work independently, exercising sound clinical judgment, while collaborating within an interdisciplinary team.

· Builds & maintains positive, trusting relationships within the team and external contacts.

· Strong counseling, group facilitation, and patient education skills.

· Strong negotiation, advocacy, and case management skills.

· Strong problem-solving, strategic thinking, time management and organizational skills.

· Strong quality improvement and change management skills.

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

· High level of compassion, integrity, professionalism, and respect for confidentiality.

· A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation and conflict resolution.

· Proficiency with computer systems including Microsoft Office, Outlook , Netcare and electronic medical records

· Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

 

This position reports to the Clinical Manager of the Wetaskiwin Primary Care Network.
