Medical Office Assistant
Location: Wetaskiwin, AB Permanent Full-time 1.0 FTE

 

The Wetaskiwin Primary Care Network (WPCN) is a physician-led non-profit corporation that works collaboratively with Alberta Health Services and our community partners to support primary care in Wetaskiwin and surrounding area.

 

As a member of the Inter-Professional Primary Care Team the Medical Office Assistant works closely with the Primary Care Network (PCN) team and families at the PCN location in Wetaskiwin, performing administrative and clinical duties, under the direction of the Clinical Manager. Administrative duties include scheduling and confirming appointments, maintaining medical records, editing/sending and follow up with medical referrals. Clinical duties include taking and recording vital signs, medical history, preparing patients for examination, pre-exam screening and testing of urine samples.

 

The ideal candidate has:

· A medical office certificate or related experience.

· Related experience in a hospital or medical office setting preferred.

· Knowledge of Health Information Act and/or Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy. Respect for privacy and confidentiality.

· Computer proficiency and experience using an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and NetCare.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills.

· The ability to establish and nurture good rapport, and collaborative relationships with patients, families, service providers and professionals in the surrounding communities.

· The ability to adapt to unexpected new situations.

· A desire to either live in the rural community being served or at least a strong vested interest in the health of the community to become familiar with the needs, resources, and particular issues unique to each community and each patient.

 

This position reports to the Clinical Manager of the Wetaskiwin Primary Care Network.
