What is a Registered Dietitian (RD)?

A Registered Dietitians are trained and regulated health care professionals who provide advice and counselling about diet, food, and nutrition. RD’s help you learn new skills to improve eating habits including how to:

  • Plan balanced meals to meet nutrient and energy needs
  • Set specific and achievable goals related to food, nutrition, & diet
  • Use food to help manage your medical conditions
  • Eat according to your body’s hunger and fullness levels
  • Implement positive eating habits to improve long-term relationships with food
  • Eat properly to promote your health 

Our Registered Dietitian can help you navigate the nutrition jungle in a way that works for your lifestyle. Our dietitian provides individual nutrition counselling and support to adults, teens, and children.

The dietitian primarily provides individual nutrition counselling to patients requiring support with chronic disease management, including:

  • diabetes
  • heart disease
  • weight management
  • blood pressure
  • cholesterol management

Nutrition counselling is also available for other nutrition-related concerns including (but not limited to):

  • prenatal/post natal nutrition
  • food allergies, intolerances, & restrictions
  • sport nutrition
  • general healthy eating
  • constipation, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, & acid reflux nausea
  • gastrointestinal concerns (such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Celiac disease, Crohn’s or Colitis disease)
  • vegetarian and vegan diets
  • emotional eating

Our dietitian also facilitates a variety of group classes on nutrition-related topics. This includes Senior Wellness Circle, for weight management and healthy lifestyle change.

How does it work?

Initial nutrition counselling sessions are up to 1 hour in duration and follow up sessions are about 30 minutes

How do I meet with a dietitian?

You can access this services by asking for a referral from your Wetaskiwin PCN family physician. This service is by appointment only.
